| | History of the Butcher Cover |
"I thought it was gross"-George Harrision
"My original idea was better-decapitate Paul! but he wouldn't go along with it" -John Lennon
"But you can sell it for 11 million dollars" - John Lennon
In a nutshell, the controversy started in May 1966 when Capitol in the states required a cover for their Beatles LP "Yesterday... and Today". The infamous butcher cover has worked its way into legend to become the most sought after Beatles album of all time. Originally shot as part of a surrealist triptych by photographer Robert Whitaker, the sight of the Fab 4 dressed in butcher's aprons and adorned with raw meat and dismembered baby dolls proved too much for the US mainstream. Some DJs even refused to play the album because they were shocked by the grotesques jackets. Anyway, rather than waste the reported $200,000 printing cost of the sleeve, Capitol "removed" the sleeve and replaced it with a more decent shot(see pix opposite)by pasting a innocent looking shot of the band, but people started to peel, steam, tearing away the new sleeve because it was cool to own the banned cover!

Collecting the "Butcher Cover"
A shrinkwrapped First State Butcher Cover mono Copy will set you back about GBP 9,000! Can you imagine the Stereo Copy??? For those of us who merely wanted a cover to decorate our living room or private music room , here's a chance for you to own a repro without forking out 11 million dollars. This " masterpiece" promise to give you the same impression(96%) for a shocking price of GBP 29.99 and I will even throw in Free Shipping for you - Worldwide! .
Where's the vinyl?
In order to make it affordable for everyone, we decided to purchase in bulk from the supplier and that means to sacrifice the vinyl . Partly because there many people out there who just wanted to own this cover and also many of them do not own a turntable anymore. So instead of buying a GBP19.99 poster, it is wiser to display a real authentic LP cover.
Another Happy Customer !

The Butcher cover repro arrived in just two weeks. Great service, very much appreciated.
Quite an interesting reproduction--a bit too much yellow in the flesh tones, but overall, a very good job. A nice piece to have, especially considering the condition of most authentic first- , second- and third-state Butcher covers.
Many thanks! I shall recommend your site to others.
